No sign of a match preview, I suppose it is Sunday and they probably haven't rung around yet to see who's available.

TKC took a blow on the hand at Old Trafford so may be a doubt. Not sure if there will be much happening tomorrow if the forecast is to be believed.

Hoping for a decent day over there on Tuesday. No EGM so I don't have to start out so early.

Possible XI.

Lyth, Bean, Fraine, TKC/Duke, Hill, Tattersall, Waite, Bess, Thompson, Patterson, Coad.

We are still looking pretty lightweight.

I would add Revis there - if fit - he needs to play again this season.

I think Fraine is a little bit vulnerable, though he played a part in the second innings at OT. Duke and Luxton are possible alternatives. Waite had a disappointing game, and Revis perhaps should replace either him or Thompson, if Jordan needs a break. It would be good to see Shutt get a game, but not at Bess's expense. Ballance would be a nice surprise.

If we get the BBC weather, we probably won't see a ball bowled all day; the Met Office weather would give us almost two sessions before the deluge. Then it's set fair, from Tuesday.

I've got a plan B lined up, involving buying a new armchair and getting my booster Covid / flu jabs. The exciting life of a pensioner.

Latest forecast seems to indicate they will at least get started. The forecast for here and the actual weather don't match so far today.

Essex 13 man squad:

Sir Cook, Westley, Browne, Allison, Sam Cook, Critchley, Das, Lawrence, Nijjar, Khushi, Rossington, Porter, Snater.

On paper they look stronger than anything we can put out at the moment. Khushi got a big hundred last week and Sam Cook is currently being talked up for England.

We'Il just have to keep guessing. There's absolutely nothing on the YCCC website even that there is a game, poor PR for fans and members

Somebody told me that they think Lord P is now out of the country and that's the real reason for cancelling the AGM. Don't know if I could believe that

They probably don't even know the squad yet. Ben Mike is available, though whether he will play or not we will have to see.

10:30 start unlikely according to the matchday blog which has just cranked into life. Still no squad, are they trying to smuggle Gary Ballance in!

It's fun to speculate but I doubt there will be any meaningful cricket today, perhaps even no toss.

Play started on time , no Ben Mike, usual suspects.Good toss to win for Essex, Yorks 32 -2

Start on time, Essex won the toss and....well no surprise there! Can we last out until lunch?

Apart from Sir Cook and Sam Cook, I don't think we've too much to fear. Obviously one or two decent players like Westley, Lawrence and Porter, and some good youngsters, as we have.

I am watching from home today.

I wrote that an hour ago, forgot to click the 'post reply' icon.

Sam Cook ultra dangerous early doors, the others much less so. Two left-handers gone, but 47 for 2 now. We live in hope. Revis in for Waite, Shutt for Bess, and they're playing on the U12 pitch about twenty yards from the east stand.

Okay, 50 yards, with 100 yards on the other side, but rope well in. Why? Isn't it our ground?

Shutt in for Bess and Revis for Waite, we could have done with winning the toss I think. Bean and Lyth gone early, lots depending on Hill and TKC to get us some runs on the board.

TKC looked good, very good, but inconsiderately got out while I was out of the room. Fraine was bowled all over the place, so it's Hill, who has seemed to be playing on a different pitch to the others, and Captain Tatters now. We're going to miss Bess's batting, but perhaps it would be beneficial to have a bowl at them today?

Having a go at them today might indeed be the silver lining in what's looking to be a very dark cloud.

100 for 8 now, so we'll soon find out whether I bowlers can put the ball in 'good areas', like Sam Cook has.

Patto may have a chance to get his bunny Sir Cook again, though I hope the new-ball bowlers will get him before that. The shape of the game will be decided tonight, assuming our tail doesn't wag, and it doesn't rain. Wall-to-wall sun tomorrow!

The cricketing gods really have it in for us with the rain staying away until we are all out and now possibly not letting us exploit the conditions.

Bummer. I'm watching Warwicks v Somerset. The Bears have got two Indian Test bowlers making their debuts. Siraj, quick, and Yadav the off-spinner - and they say Adam Lyth chucks!

TKC could be playing in Div 2 next season.

Yes indeed.

Started on time in very overcast conditions which never improved. Essex have a great bowling attack in Cook and Porter, very good but not quite good enough for England supported by excellent Dutch international Sneeter and Allison, the latter who bowled pretty short at tailenders in the fading light (seen umpire in other games say 'you'll need to put spinners on or go off for bad light'),

Hill and Tatts batted really well, most of rest really struggled. Coed was in a good partnership with Patto (who got generous round of applause) until unluckily out to an Allison bouncer. Fraine a bit clueless. Their slowest bowler was faster than all of ours so little prospect of dishing it out to Allison

A toss we needed to win, we're up against it now particularly as weather is set to be fair for next three days. Still early days and they're still to bat even if they have the other Cooky Boy.

Otis Gibson at lunch going through the routine for bowling with non-playing Waite and Ben Mike together with another unknown bowler - maybe a trialist, maybe someone to sign? Black, with black hair with large areas of blond curls so who he is and where he's from is anyone's guess, seemed to bowl a bit wide but I'm not the coach) Can't be there for rest of match. Cumbria.

yes a very poor day, our form was as backendish as the weather...indeed the make-up of the sides is not to our advantage...the conditions must have made Essex feel they were playing at Chelmsford ...looking down the table and what a 3 pointer will do to us...at least Hill and Tattersall did well...can we stay competitive in this game?????

We've lost whatever advantage playing in cloudy damp conditions this afternoon would have given us, but we do start tomorrow morning at 10:30 with a new ball.

I think we will probably know if we can be competitive in terms of winning this game by about tea-time tomorrow.

If Essex end up getting 3 or more batting points by the end of the day, then it's backs to the wall and another blockathon in the second innings.

We could always go for a glorious counter attack of course, sorry I'm only joking.

Nice start by Thommo and Coad, a few close shouts as well as the wickets. Thommo being Thommo, mostly tight but a few 4 balls - 6 overs 23-2 including 5 4's. And now Patto gets his bunny and 50/3, game on!
