Following on:
Tthe list of players on the club website, after deleting leavers and Bairstow, Brook, Rashid, Root and Malan who will be spending a lot of time with England at least for the next couple of seasons - see fixtures for 2023 onwards.

We have 18 players
Ballance, Coad, Lyth, Bess, Fisher, Fraine, Shutt, Tattersall, Thompson, Hill, Leech, Loten, Sullivan J, Luxton, Wharton, Duke, Revis, Sullivan H
plus Masood, Mike and Milnes making 21.

Ballance, Leech and Fisher - have injury/medical issues - who knows their progress/status? Put them to one side.

Select a CC XIV from those remaining:

Lyth, Masood, Hill, Fraine, Tattersall, Revis, Mike, Thompson, Bess, Duke, Milnes, Coad PLUS Shutt and Sullivan H.

So who is in the shop window?
I think Loten, Wharton, Shutt, Sullivan J and Luxton add Bean and Cliff and this may be the group deemed surplus to requirements / or on show in the RLODC = choose own version.

All good points very well made.

Not sure where Fraine is with his contract. He's been in the 'shop window' himself in recent weeks and has made some pretty solid performances , not just finals day. At his age if he was offered say a 3 year contract elsewhere, I think he'd be tempted

Yes there was a posting on the WRF quoting a Derbyshire source, probably Peak Fan, which gave a lengthy list of all county cricketers coming to the end of their contracts this year.
Yorkshire’s list was long itself.
Root Bairstow Duke Birkhead Wharton Revis Loten Shutt Sullivan Sullivan

There are a higher number than usual becayse the pandemic led to some changes to the flow of things. I expect we will release a couple, maybe more as Gibson seeks to remold the squad. Birkhead, Wharton, Josh Sullivan and perhaps Loten will be waiting anxiously i imagine.

Of course it would be helpful if anybody had a clue just what next season looks like and exactly what resources (o.k people) we are likely to need.

We should continue as we are next season, with the same number of matches slightly better timetabled.

The timings of the presentation of the high performance review to the counties, and subsequent consultation with members are ludicrous and should not be implemented until the 2024 season.

Bairstow? Is he still a Yorkshire player?

With the Roses match coming up I wonder who will be available. I've already discountrd Malan my diary says 'sllght twinge for Malan' but presumably he'll be ok for the subsequent England games

Bairstow's has probably been told to avoid all contact with Yorkshire, just in case his name gets dragged through the mud.

Root might get involved in the later games, he seems capable of rising above it.

Malan really has no excuse not to play the remainder of the CC for Yorkshire, whether he does or not we will have to see.

Ballance I really can't see turning out for us this season, and I think it will be touch and go whether he ever returns to first team cricket in this country.

Interestingly, there has been a persistent rumour that Ballance might reemerge as a Test player for Zimbabwe.

I hadn't heard that but I did read that Zimbabwe cricket was very much on the up after a very difficult period for them.

Dunno if it was noticed, but we managed to field an All-Yorkshire XI in the one-wicket win at Chesterfield. Today, at Scarborough we still had 11 Yorkshire-born + Bess, because Harry Sullivan replaced Dom as a concussion sub. He looked quite badly hurt (by a throw-in); stayed down a long, long time. The impact looked very close to that back-of-the-neck Phil Hughes area.

That 11 Yorkies team is not going to happen again, after this season. I think Masood, Mike and Milnes are probably all good signings, as cricketers. Let's hope they're all good people, too. Chances are they will be, because most cricketers are. Gary Ballance, for example. Whatever his future, I hope it involves playing cricket. Preferably for Yorkshire, but better he play for S. O. Else than not play at all.

Flying to Pakistan and back to take part in just one T20 game just about summarises how ridiculous the current situation is.

I hope his Pakistan central contract runs out before he joins us.

Gosh he'll be getting a nickname like Air Miles Masood. Hope not .

I'm sure there's no connection with Gary's recent apology to Azeem, the latter's acceptance and permission sorry I mean approval for Gary to play again (for Zimbabwe or other)

Our new signing for next season Shan Masood, who has never played a T20i in his career, is now in the Pakistan squad to play the 7 T20's against England starting on Tuesday.

I hope he isn't very good.

I used to put national teams before those I would support in person locally but no more.

I'm thinking of next season for Yorkshire. Mind you if he is too successful for Pakistan it could mean less availability for Yorkshire.

Damn. I must stop arguing against myself.

Your natural reaction is to do the right then, which is admirable. Then self interest comes calling, just like the rest of us.
