Just two other games this round at the end of which all the teams will have played 12.

Northants (5) v Surrey (2) at Northampton
Warwickshire (9) v Somerset (8) at Edgbaston.

Somerset 182/8 recovered from a disastrous start against Warwickshire. In terms of leaving the largest gap between us and the bottom two a Somerset win would be preferable, but only marginally.

Northants 249/4 have probably had a better day than they could have imagined. Even if it all goes pear shaped for them from here, they will consolidate 5th place, unless we can produce a win in our game that is.

Somerset 219 and 13/2 lead Warwickshire 196 by 36 runs. Looks like a result one way or the other possibly tomorrow.

Northants 339 lead Surrey 224/5 by 115 runs. Perhaps a draw looks favourite to make the last two rounds interesting.

I think it would be better to face a slightly nervous Surrey next week, rather than a team who have the Championship in the bag.

Somerset played a very good hand yesterday and already have a 300 run lead on Warwickshire. Dare they risk it for a win or will they bat on and take the points?

Northants have a lead of 120 or thereabouts and 5 wickets left. You just know that Surrey will go for it even if they need 10 an over.

I am watching Warwicks v Somerset. Will Rhodes appeared to be leading Warwicks' charge to an unlikely victory. Josh Davey bowling badly! I have never, ever seen that! But now, up steps Jack Brooks, he bowls Rhodes and then gets Burgess lbw first ball, and suddenly Warwicks are 220 for 5, still needing 144 off 23.

Game on. The ideal result for us is a Somerset win, I think. That's from the point of view of relegation avoidance.

Northants managed to bat Surrey out of the match and earn themselves a creditable draw. I'd still like us to overtake them but they've had a solid season. This will be the first time they have survived in Division 1 to face a second season, so well done them.

Somerset and Warwickshire finally settling for a draw. I'd put the those two and Kent in the pot to decide who goes down with Gloucestershire, though mathematically of course we could yet become involved.
