Root and Malan have signed new contracts

Root, 31, has signed a two-year deal until the end of the 2024 season, while Malan, 35, has agreed a two-year extension until the end of 2025.
They are both currently centrally contracted.

Root only played three times in the County Championship and Malan played five games,

Gough told the club website: "There is a lot to be excited about and players are committed to this club."

More 'excitement' from the A D of C. Commitment? The number of games they played shows that commitment, if they really cared then they would have moved mountains to play. OK Malan was going off to the T20 series in Pakistan but he could have been available. Root could have played in that last match ... best batsman, former skipper, still doing it for England .. he would surely have pressed his case if the county means anything to him now.

If we get 10 appearances from them in the CC next season I will be surprised.

What chances of Joe playing out his f-c years with YCCC, following the example of Trescothick and Sir Cook? And indeed Ryan Sidebottom, who had less to thank Yorkshire for.

It's a two-way thing. The player has to love playing for his County, and the County needs to be both welcoming and grateful. We have seen the depth of Yorkshire's gratitude, regarding Patto, like Byas before him; not a new development.

Root is coming on 32 so I reckon he has a good 3 or 4 more years with England, unless he is usurped by someone even better. He doesn't seem to be organising his life so he can play cricket for Yorkshire now, so I don't see him doing it when he finishes his England career.

Not playing staff but I read in the YP that DG is looking to extend his time at Yorkshire.

There is also a vacancy for a 'Cricket Operations Executive' advertised on the website, someone to do the Legwork that would allow DG to attend to his other interests perhaps?

What happened to the putative appointment of a Chief Exec following the interviews of 'some very strong candidates'? I smell a rat here.

Probably the same thing as the soon-to-be-arranged revised EGM which will be on a Saturday. Soon.

Like the cancellation of the last EGM, they'll probably announce it at 5:47 on a Friday evening (and to take place the following morning)

Tom Loten signs for Notts. So he has been promoted a division! I hadn't realised he had played for their 2nds at the end of the season.

Happy for him - he was a wholehearted cricketer, but he was not going to make it to a regular first XI player at Yorkshire. I wonder if anyone is going to pick Harry Sullivan up as well - he looked a really decent bowler to me!

Yes, good news for the young man and I wish him well, even if it is Notts. Of course not everyone who comes through the system is going to make it, another couple of years at a different club should be enough for him to know.

Contrasting situations.
I wish Tom Loten all the best. An interesting signing by Notts - they must have seen something that eluded the YCCC team. I just hope he doesn't come back and stuff us somewhen after some good developmental coaching elsewhere.

Malan ... interesting ..... now, will he simply become one of the 'Carlos Bashaball' crew - have bat will travel and wander from 'Premier' League to 'Premier' League or will he buckle on his pads and play for the county?

Willey retains a contract ... they know his worth and where he is most effective I think.

Harry Brook is on course for another year of drinks waiting - but maybe he will play more now but less for YCCC.

The one that really worries me is Fisher - .... developmental contract ... what does that mean? Traipsing around being a net bowler for the central contract chaps? Some force feeding of 'fitness' training? Meddling with his action? Wrecking his back? England have done this sort of thing with quick(er) bowlers for years. That contract could make a mess of the prospective attack we have been posting about recently on other threads.

Finally - I hope Harry Sullivan gets a gig somewhere decent.

It can happen - remember Steve Kirby coming to us after being let go by a couple of clubs and being just marvellous from the off?

I missed this yesterday - another piece of A D of C speak:

Asked about 'attracting quality players' now we are in division 2 he said;

"It won't be a problem. It's Yorkshire County Cricket Club."
"Agents are ringing me all the time about players who want to come and play for us."
"These are players who are already in Division One next year and I can't talk to them yet because they are still under contract."

Line by line:
Line 1 : 'it's Yorkshire County Cricket Club' ... so no problems or issue or uncertainties there to hinder moves to 'attract quality players' ... err what about developing some players and trusting those we have Darren?
Line 2 : Really? Then where were these players when we desperately needed so input this season Darren?
Line 3 : So when do you propose to start tapping up these players who have nice, settled, decent contracts with clubs they can trust Darren?

... and the one line of non-fantasy (= truth) appeared later ..

""Performances are judged on where you finish in the County Championship and unfortunately for us, we got relegated," said Gough.

Question Darren .... who supervised this set of performances that caused us to be relegated? I'll answer for him ... DG and OG!!!

I don't know who I find less inspiring ... the 'top 2' members of the current 'government' or the 'top 2' at YCCC.

PS I drafted this before yesterdays comic cuts but it may still apply!!
